How to use Contractbook comments in your drafts?
Contractbook comments offer you a great way to facilitate improved collaboration and organization in your legal work. Comments could be helpful for you in many situations, here are our suggestions:
- Collect details or input from your colleagues.
- Receive feedback on your contract draft from your colleagues or your lawyer before sending it for signatures.
- Add comments for yourself.
How to add comments to a draft?
Contractbook comment feature enables you to easily discuss the content of a draft and in-depth details of the legal work by adding comments to specific words, phrases, sentences, or paragraphs.
To add comments to a draft in Comment mode:
Start off by opening the draft you work on. You can activate the Comment mode by clicking on the Comments icon in the right-hand sidebar of your document.
By marking the word, phrase, paragraph (or just any text input that must be commented on), a dialogue box will automatically appear and you can use it to write your comment.
Once you are done, confirm by clicking Send.

You have now added a comment to your draft and it will be visible in the right-hand sidebar under the Comments view.
To add comments to a draft in Create and Preview mode:
If you want to add a comment from Create or Preview mode, without entering the Comment mode, you can just select the relevant piece of text in the body of your draft, await the small popup to appear on top, and create a new comment.
How to edit, add to or delete a comment?
Open the draft to which the comment you want to change is added and click on the Comments icon on the right-hand sidebar. A list with all active comments will be displayed. Use the filter in the top right-hand corner to switch the view to only resolved comments:
How to make changes to active comments?
Simply find the comment you want to amend in the list and click on it. This will open a dialog box in which you can Resolve the comment from the blue label in the top right-hand corner.
If you click on the three small grey dots to the right of the comment, you will be able to edit or delete it.
Note: You can only edit or delete a comment if you have created it.
How to make changes to resolved comments?
If you filter the Comments view to resolved comments, they will be displayed in the right-hand sidebar instead. This allows you to Reopen a comment which will automatically make it active again.
From the dialog box associated with it, you can now make the same changes described in the previous step.
How do I find comments added to a draft?
In order to find the comments already added to a draft, you need to click on the Comments icon placed on the right-hand side of the screen.
In this view, comments will appear with a small green speech bubble and a number placed in it that indicates how many comments are in the thread.
The comments bubble will be located next to the line of the body text to which the comment is added and the associated with it text in the document will be underlined in grey:

How do I make changes to the draft based on a comment?
In order to make any changes to the body of the draft which links to comments, you need to turn from Comments mode to Editing mode by allowing the Full-text editing toggle bar at the top of your document.
Note: You cannot make changes to the body of the contract while being in Comments mode.
When you are not in the Comments mode, the comments icon will indicate how many active comment threads there are in the draft currently.
If you share the draft, the recipients will be able to see your comments, reply to them or add their own.
Whenever someone makes a comment in a draft that you own, you will get a notification both in-app and through email.
Once the draft is turned into a contract by initiating the signature process, comments will not be visible to the signees.
What is the difference between active and resolved comments?
To help keep a track of all your comments you can mark them as Resolved if they are no longer relevant in the Comments mode, directly by clicking on the Resolve button in the right-hand sidebar:

In your drafts, all resolved comments will be shown with a checkmark placed inside the green speech bubble instead of a number. This will create a shortcut for you that you can always use to reopen a comment thread if needed.

Can I add comments to contracts?
The commenting feature is allowed only on drafts you own yourself or have been shared with you.
If a draft is shared with you, you are able to add comments to it. You can use the link to the shared with you drafts to add comments to them.
Once a draft becomes a contract commenting is disabled.
With Contractbook comments you can increase collaboration and transparency in your organization. Learn how to mention external collaborators by tagging them in your comments here.
