This article shows how you can download any Contractbook draft or template as a Word (.docx) file. This is useful if you need to share a contract with someone who insists on negotiating in Word format instead of Contractbook.
Note: When you download a contract as a Word file, any Contractbook-native components such as parties, signees, data fields, or conditional text will be converted to static text. Re-importing the file will not restore these elements.
Download a draft as a Word file (.docx)
-
Go to the Contracts page and open any draft
-
In the top-right action bar, click the three-dot menu
-
Select Download as Word (.docx)
The file will download to your computer as a standard Word document that you can open and edit outside of Contractbook.
Note: Downloading a contract as Word file (.docx) is only possible in draft mode. Once a contract is pending or signed, you can only download it as a PDF.
Download a template as a Word file (.docx)
-
Go to the Templates page and open any template
-
In the top-right action bar, click the three-dot menu
-
Select Download as Word (.docx)
The exported template can now be shared with external stakeholders who prefer working in Word.
Things to keep in mind
-
Attachments are not included in the export
-
Rich components like data fields or conditional logic are flattened into plain text
-
The exported Word file is static and not connected to your Contractbook workflow
This feature gives you flexibility when a counterparty insists on using Word, but for full functionality and collaboration, we recommend keeping your contracts inside Contractbook whenever possible.
